Privacy Policy

We collect the following types of information:

• Prompt fields and story details you provide
• Files you upload (images, documents, references)
• Payment information (processed by Stripe/PayPal)
• Email address for delivery and communication
• Usage analytics for service improvement

If you create a YouWrite account, we additionally collect:

• Your email address and a password. We never store the password itself — only a one-way hash, held by our authentication provider (Supabase). Nobody at YouWrite can read your password.
• Writing you choose to save to your account — books, chapters, outlines, characters and revision history.
• Subscription and entitlement records if you take a paid plan: which plan, its status, when the current period ends, and how many included AI checks you have used this month.

We use your information to:

• Generate and deliver your personalized writing
• Process payments and manage orders
• Provide customer support
• Improve our AI generation algorithms
• Send order confirmations and delivery notifications
• Comply with legal requirements

Your data security is important to us:

• Uploads stored securely using Supabase cloud storage
• All data encrypted in transit and at rest
• Payment data handled by certified processors (Stripe/PayPal)
• Order data retained for 7 years for business records
• Files uploaded for a one-off order are kept while the order is delivered and then removed. Uploads from checkouts that were never paid for are deleted automatically after 24 hours.
• Writing saved to a member account is kept for as long as the account exists, and is removed when the account is deleted.

YouWrite is local-first. When you write in the desk, your work is saved on your own computer first, in your browser's storage. It stays there whether or not you have an account, and signing out does not remove it.

If you are signed in, a copy is also synced to your account so you can reach it from another device. That copy is readable only by your account: every table holding member writing is protected by row-level security keyed to your user ID, so one member's account cannot read another's.

We do not read your manuscripts. No person at YouWrite opens your writing, and we do not review it except where you explicitly ask us to help with a specific support request.

🔒 We do not use your uploads, prompts or manuscripts to train AI models.

Your creative content is sent to an AI provider only when you ask for something that needs one — generating a book, refining writing, or running a character continuity check. It is used to answer that request and for nothing else.

The providers we send content to are:

• Anthropic (Claude) — for generation and for the character continuity checks included with paid plans.
• Groq — for lighter, faster tasks, including the free monthly allowance of AI checks.

Both are processors acting on our instructions. Under their API terms, neither is permitted to use your content to train their models. Which provider handles a request depends on the feature and your plan, never on the content itself.

Where that promise comes from, and where it stops

We want to be exact about this, because “we don’t train on your work” can be read as a promise we are not in a position to make on our own. There are two separate things here:

• We do not train models. YouWrite builds no model from your writing, and we do not sell, licence or hand over your work to anyone for that purpose. This one is entirely within our control.
• Our providers do not train on it either — because their business terms for API access exclude customer content from model training. That is a contractual commitment from them, not something we can verify inside their systems. We can choose providers whose terms say it and hold them to it; we cannot audit their infrastructure, and neither can you.

Related, and worth saying plainly: your content may be held briefly by a provider for abuse monitoring before it is deleted, which is ordinary for API services and is not the same thing as training.

We are working towards proprietary systems that will be controlled locally and will allow better control over the AI features used. Until then, the accurate statement is the one above: we do not train on your writing, and the providers we send it to are contractually barred from doing so.

Paid plans are billed monthly through Stripe. We never see or store your card number: Stripe handles the card and tells us only whether the subscription is active, which plan it is, and when the period ends.

We keep those subscription records for as long as you have an account, and keep the transaction record afterwards where tax and accounting law requires it.

You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancelling keeps your access until the end of the period you have already paid for.

We share information only when necessary:

• Payment processors (Stripe/PayPal) for transaction processing
• Cloud service providers (Supabase) for data storage
• AI generation services for content creation
• Legal authorities when required by law

We never sell your personal information to third parties.

We use the Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel) to measure ad effectiveness and understand how visitors interact with YouWrite.com. The Pixel collects:

• Pages visited on YouWrite.com
• Device and browser information
• IP address (anonymized by Meta)
• Actions taken on the site (e.g., page views, form interactions)

This information is sent to Meta Platforms, Inc. and may be used to show you relevant ads on Facebook, Instagram, and other Meta properties. Meta may combine this data with other information they have collected.

You can opt out of Meta advertising tracking through your Meta Ad Preferences or by using browser tools that block tracking pixels. Opting out will not affect your ability to use YouWrite.com.

Nothing is tracked until you say so. The Meta Pixel described in the section above does not load when you arrive. It loads only after you press Allow.

The first time you visit, a banner appears at the bottom of the page. It says: "We use the Meta Pixel for advertising measurement. It stays OFF until you allow it." — and it gives you two buttons, Allow and Decline, that are the same size and the same weight. There is no pre-ticked box and no hidden default.

If you press Decline, no pixel is loaded, nothing is sent to Meta, and we do not ask you again. Everything on the site keeps working exactly as it did. Declining is not a lesser option, and the advertising measurement it refuses is the only thing it refuses.

If you press Allow, the pixel loads and the page-view and interaction data described in the section above is shared with Meta Platforms, Inc. for advertising measurement. That sharing is exactly what the banner is asking about, and it is the thing you can refuse.

You can withdraw a choice you have already made. Your answer is stored in your own browser, in local storage, under the key yw-consent. Clearing it — through your browser's "clear site data" or "clear cookies and site data" controls for youwrite.com — puts you back to having made no choice at all: the pixel stops loading and the banner asks again on your next visit. A withdrawal takes effect from the moment you make it; it does not reach back and undo measurement already shared while consent was in place.

We do not use advertising or analytics cookies for any other purpose, and we do not sell this data. Strictly necessary storage — the sign-in session that keeps you logged in, and the local copy of your own writing — is not covered by this banner because the service cannot work without it.

You have the right to:

• Access your personal data
• Request data correction or deletion
• Withdraw consent for data processing
• Data portability (receive your data in standard format)
• File complaints with data protection authorities

You can have your account deleted at any time. Email paperspacedigital@gmail.com from your account's email address and we will action it.

Deletion removes, permanently and together:

• your login, so the account can no longer be signed in to;
• every row we hold that belongs to you — your books, chapters, revisions, outlines, characters, canvases, voice profiles, subscription record and usage counters;
• the files themselves, not merely the database records pointing at them.

This cannot be undone, and we cannot recover it afterwards. The copy on your own computer is not touched — it is yours and stays where it is.

If you have an active subscription, cancel it first (Settings → Membership). We will not delete an account with live billing attached, because deleting the record here does not stop Stripe charging you, and you would be paying for an account you could no longer reach.

Records we are legally required to keep — chiefly transaction records for tax and accounting — are retained after deletion as the law requires. They are not linked to a usable account.

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, we rely on these lawful bases:

• Performance of a contract — creating and running your account, storing the writing you asked us to store, processing your content to produce what you ordered, and taking subscription payments.
• Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure, preventing abuse of AI usage limits, and basic analytics to improve the product. We use the least data that achieves this.
• Consent — advertising and measurement through the Meta Pixel, which you can withdraw at any time (see Advertising & Analytics Tracking above) without losing access to anything.
• Legal obligation — retaining transaction records for tax and accounting.

The data controller is Paperspace Digital LLC. You may complain to your local supervisory authority. Our processors include Supabase (hosting, authentication and storage), Stripe and PayPal (payments), and Anthropic and Groq (AI processing); some are located in the United States, and transfers are made under those providers' standard contractual clauses.
